Speed quilting

I decided 4 months ago to make my Parents a quilt for Christmas. December seemed a long way off, leaving me plenty of time to construct it.

Needless to say, Quilts take a ridiculously long time to make, and this one is ridiculously large. It is 2.5m x 2.3m and is very heavy and bulky to sew. I have been up until 11.00 every night this week trying to finish the damned thing.

This is largely my own fault because up until 4 weeks ago I was on target for completing in time. Then I decided to embellish it further with a wide border of tiny quilted circles. They look great but take hours to do, especially when you work for 3 hours, realise that you've forgotten to set up the machine properly, and have to unpick everything. I would say I have spent over 20 hours on sewing the circles alone, and well over 100 hours on the quilt as a whole.

I have oh so nearly finished - just the binding around the edge to sew on. Probably just another 2 or 3 hours and I can put it under the tree. My parents had better appreciate it.

I will post photos of my quilts after Christmas because I don't want to spoil the surprise.

Mona Lisa

I love the practical poultry forum. What a bunch of lovely eccentrics one can meet there. I fit in perfectly. Only on the PP forum would someone point out that Scramble2 is the 'Chicken Mona Lisa'.

I have to agree. In fact it's so uncanny it's freaking me out a bit.

It's that enigmatic smile.

Chicken pics

Thought it was time for some new chicken pictures.

I do love them but it's about time they fulfilled their side of the bargain and laid us an egg or two. Currently the deal is a bit one sided - A constant supply of food and deluxe surroundings yet nothing in return, except for a momentous amount of poo on the patio.

Chicken news

Today on chicken news...

Not much. They are sleeping when I leave for work and have already gone up to roost when I get back.

Last Friday Scramble perfected her new trick of getting my attention by jumping on the window cill and tapping the glass with her beak. After feeding her some corn she then went to sleep there, curled up like a fluffy ball pressed against the glass. Soooo cute!

That's all on Chicken news for now.

Life just trogs along nicely sometimes...

Apologies for the lack of posts. It's not that I haven't been busy - I have - and it's not that I haven't taken any weird trains of thought in my brain either - I go on those all the time, it's more that I feel as though you wouldn't want to hear my thoughts on pink hot water bottles, or the problems with tension I am having on my sewing machine. Basically my life is a bit mundane. Very pleasant most of the time, but mundane.

For example, last week I had a cold/period pain combo so decided to spend the day sitting on the sofa (with afore mentioned pink hot water bottle) and teach myself how to knit from a library book. See what I mean - hardly worth logging onto blogger to tell you that riveting piece of news, was it?
